Lincoln on the Move is investing in improvements to North 48th Street from Leighton Avenue to Superior Street. These improvements will include a mill and overlay of the existing asphalt surface and concrete panel replacement where required. Additional work with other funding sources will include reconstruction of the traffic signal at the intersection of North 48th Street and Cornhusker Highway, installation of a pedestrian hybrid beacon at North 48th Street and Huntington Avenue, and upgrades to the existing sidewalk ramps to comply with federal and local standards.
In coordination with the street improvement project, a new water main will be installed from Leighton Avenue to Gladstone Street.

Construction is taking place in 2023.
Access During Construction
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities and its partners have divided these projects into four phases of construction. By creating this plan, the phases of construction will assist drivers, those living in nearby neighborhoods, and businesses directly impacted by construction to increase route flexibility through this project. Each of the four phases of construction is estimated to take one to three months to complete. Once all four phases are complete, the community will be able to enjoy a smooth street and new water infrastructure in the area for years to come.
Lane closures and roadway closures are anticipated throughout the phases of the project. Local traffic can access businesses using adjacent residential streets. The traveling public is encouraged to find alternative routes and to use the WAZE app for assistance.
