West Haymarket Future Design Framework

West Haymaket offers us a unique opportunity to forge a legacy for generations to come. Many have come before us supplying the foundation for the quality city we enjoy today. Regardless of whether times were prosperous or hard, previous generations trusted their vision by investing in their community - a community which today is ours to enjoy. Some investments were grand and large in scale, such as an architecturally renowned State Capitol Building or establishing a world-class public university. Other visionaries worked to conserve open spaces for community parks and natural areas or committed their efforts to neighborhoods which thrive to this day.

The members of the West Haymarket Action Team (WHAT) are asking for your help. Join with them, others in the community, and Lincoln's design professionals by offering your thoughts on how to plant the seeds of development which will blossom for tomorrow's children, families, and people of all ages.

A draft set of "Community Values" has been posted on this site for your review. These are initial ideas on the basic principles to use in redeveloping West Haymarket. We encourage you to read them and to provide your ideas on this draft.

How best to contribute your ideas on the rebirth of West Haymarket. Two ways you can do so are:

  • West Haymarket Future Design Framework Open House - Join us on Thursday, April 17th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the Ridnour Room in the Ridnour Plaza, 809 P Street. The Open House offers you an opportunity to visit with staff and members of various City committees about the design approach to be employed in redeveloping West Haymarket. The event's format allows you to come and go at your pleasure. What's being sought are your ideas and thoughts about how best to recapture this valued venue of Lincoln.
  • Comment Board - We have set up a "Comment Board" on this website for you to use to express your thoughts about how best to bring about the redevelopment proposed for West Haymarket. Please use this Comment Board to add your voice to the community dialogue.
