Proposed Tennis Expansion at Woods Park



The first plans for the development of Woods Park were prepared between 1951 and 1956, In 1991, a park master plan was developed and adopted by resolution of the City Council in 1992. This master plan has been amended over time to reflect changing conditions and the addition of recreational facilities that include tennis courts, pathways, playground expansion, and a fitness station. A summary of these past amendments and the current park master plan are below;

The Proposal

The Friends of Woods Tennis (FOWT) is a nonprofit corporation that operates the indoor and outdoor tennis facilities at Woods Park. FOWT has requested an amendment to the Woods Park Master Plan to allow for an expansion of these tennis facilities.

Community Engagement


The public was encouraged to take the Woods Park usage survey. Please note that the survey was open February 26, 2024 until March 17, 2024. 

Paper copies of the survey were also available at the Parks and Recreation Department Administrative Office at Woods Park Place, 3131 O Street, 3rd floor.

Community Meetings

The public is also invited to attend one or more community meetings to learn more about the FOWT proposed amendment to the Woods Park Master Plan and/or to offer testimony. 

A series of Community Meetings   will be held in the lower level of Woods Park Place (3131 O St) to receive public comment about the proposal.  These meetings will be held on:

  • Saturday, March 2 from 11-1pm
  • Monday, March 4 from 5:30-7:30pm
  • Tuesday, March 5 from 11:30-1:30pm

These will be open public meetings.

Facilitators Carl Eskridge and Casey Karges from the Mediation Center will facilitate the meetings.

What Next

After the survey closes, Lincoln Parks and Recreation staff will review the survey results and the public comments offered via email, letter, and testimony at public meetings.  The Department will then make a recommendation regarding the FOWT proposal to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board as well as the City Council.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board anticipates considering the proposed expansion plan at its Thursday, May 9 (4:00 p.m.) meeting.  This meeting will be held at the Auld Pavilion in Antelope Park, 3200 Memorial Drive.

Any amendments to the Woods Park Master Plan require City Council approval.
