Mayor, Local Officials Outline New Heat Response Plan

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) Director Kerry Kernen today said a new Heat Response Plan is designed to improve coordination among community partners and ensures residents will have timely, equitable access to cooling and health resources. Food Truck Zone Wild Wednesday set for May 14

The City of Lincoln invites community members to the Wild Wednesday food truck zone event Wednesday, May 14. The event will be from 11 a.m. until vendors sell out at Seventh and “K” streets under Rosa Parks Way. The Wild Wednesday food truck series takes place at the food truck zone every other Wednesday until October 15.

Mother’s Day Bird Walk set for May 11

The Pioneers Park Nature Center invites community members to the Mother’s Day Bird Walk Sunday, May 11. The event costs $5 and will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Nature Center, 3201 S. Coddington Ave. Registration is required by Thursday, May 8, by contacting the Nature Center at 402-441-7895 or naturecenter@lincoln.ne.gov or by registering online at lincoln.ne.gov/PPNCprograms (keyword: bird walk).

Wilderness Park Controlled Burn Scheduled for May 7

Parks and Recreation staff will conduct a controlled burn at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, in about 20 acres of Wilderness Park near the 14th Street trailhead parking lot (P7) between Yankee Hill Road and Rokeby Road. This burn project had originally been scheduled in April but was canceled.

First Street Trail Closure Begins May 6

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities today announced that the First Street Trail at the Oak Creek Bridge will be closed to pedestrians beginning Tuesday, May 6, for bridge repairs. The trail is expected to reopen Friday, May 9, using a temporary pedestrian connection until the bridge work is complete.

Wake Up the Beds

May 10, 2025

The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Public Garden Section created the event to involve residents in the joy of gardening at Sunken Gardens. Over the years, gardening groups, neighbors, Master Gardeners, 4-H groups and friends of Sunken Gardens have helped with the annual "Wake Up the Gardens" and "Put the Beds to Bed" events.

Mother's Day Bird Walk

May 11, 2025

May is Migratory Bird Month and May 11th is Mothers Day. Let’s celebrate both with a bird walk at the Nature Center. This program will include a slow walk in the wetland and woodland areas looking and listening for springtime birds. Bring your own binoculars or request a pair from the Nature Center.
