2006 News Releases
The Lincoln Police Department will be conducting a Safety and Sobriety Checkpoint on Friday evening, December 8, 2006. Officers will be conducting the sobriety checkpoint between 10:00 P.M. and 2:00 A.M. on West ‘O’ between Sun Valley Blvd. and 1st Street.
Officers will be focusing primarily on drivers who are impaired and will also be looking for other traffic and safety violations.
Everyone is reminded that this checkpoint is being conducted along with the increased enforcement efforts of officers who are participating in the DWI Holiday Enforcement Project. The DWI Holiday Enforcement Project is being conducted throughout the City of Lincoln in December and is made possible with a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
Last year Lincoln police officers investigated 9,582 traffic accidents in which 2,518 people were injured and 11 people were killed. Officers also arrested 1,600 drivers in 2005, for driving under the influence.
