Police Department
FALL SAFETY AND SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT
The Lincoln Police Department will be conducting a safety and sobriety checkpoint beginning Saturday evening, October 25th. The detail will begin at 9:00pm and conclude at 3:00am on October 26th.
Officers will be focusing primarily on drivers who are impaired and will also be looking for other traffic and safety violations. Funding for this increased enforcement is provided by a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS).
The project is part of Lincoln Police Department’s continuing effort to combat and deter impaired driving. Last year alone, Lincoln police officers investigated 8,124 traffic accidents in which 2,570 people were injured and 11 were killed. In 2007, officers also arrested 1,750 drivers for driving under the influence.
