Police Department
"You Drink & Drive, You Lose" Campaign
This holiday season, the Lincoln Police Department will join law enforcement agencies nationwide by participating in the "You Drink & Drive, You Lose" enforcement campaign. This special holiday enforcement will be conducted from Friday, December 5, 2008 through Saturday, January 3, 2009. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety is providing funding for off-duty officers to remove drunk and drugged drivers from our roadways during a time of increased alcohol consumption. These additional officers will be added on Friday and Saturday evenings during peak activity hours, 9pm-3am. Patrol will be conducted throughout the city, targeting high volume traffic areas.
Last year, Lincoln police officers investigated 8,124 traffic accidents in which 2,570 people were injured and 12 people were killed. Officers also arrested 1,750 drivers in 2007 for driving under the influence.
