Results of Project to Impact Underage Drinking
In an effort to impact illegal behaviors, the Lincoln Police Department's Northwest Team coordinated an underage drinking project to coincide with the return of school and the kick-off of football season. Funding for this increased enforcement was provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
From August 27, 2010 through September 25, 2010, officers employed several tactics aimed at reducing both the sale to and consumption of alcohol by minors. On the weekends of August 27th-August 28th and September 24th-September 25th, teams of officers patrolled neighborhoods, focusing on party disturbances. This effort resulted in the following criminal citations:

In addition, September 17th and September 18th, alcohol compliance checks were conducted at liquor establishments in the Northwest Team area. Two twenty-year-old minors accompanied officers to forty-one different on and off-sale liquor establishments. At each location, the minor attempted to purchase alcohol. When asked, he or she would produce an actual Nebraska driver's license, indicating that he or she was underage. Out of the forty-one establishments, the minors were provided alcohol at six locations. Each employee providing alcohol was issued a citation for Serving Alcohol to a Minor and released. The tavern violations may also be forwarded to the Liquor Control Commission for further review.
