Police Department
Underage Drinking Project Summary
During the fall of 2011, the Lincoln Police Department's Northwest Team conducted a project intended to reduce underage drinking and alcohol related offenses. The first phase of the project was completed on September 11, 2011. During that time, the officers involved issued twenty-nine criminal citations, three DUI citations and four other traffic related warning citations. Seventeen (59%) of the criminal citations were for Minor in Possession of Alcohol.
An additional phase of the project continued during the month of October. Officers patrolled neighborhoods and utilized a variety of tactics. They focused attention on parties involving alcohol consumption in which students less than twenty one years of age were in attendance. The second phase resulted in twenty-nine official citations and two warning citations. Those citations included one DUI, ten Minor in Possession citations and three Open Container citations.
Both phases of the project were funded by a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
