Outside Law Enforcement Agencies

  • Outside Law Enforcement Agency vehicles should park at an angle along Pinnacle Arena Drive no later than 7:30 a.m. Lincoln Police Department personnel will be on scene to assist. Once Pinnacle Arena Drive is full, outside law enforcement vehicles should use the red, blue and green parking garages (just south of the arena) for overflow parking.

  • After parking your cruiser, line both sides of Pinnacle Bank Arena Drive to receive the family during the escort to the Pinnacle Bank Arena. This should take place at 8:45 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. Law enforcement personnel should be standing at attention near the front of their vehicles.

  • After the family passes your tribute, please make your way into Pinnacle Bank Arena for the service. Law enforcement personnel will enter via the south entrance off R Street.

  • At the conclusion of the service, please return to your vehicle and prepare to enter the procession. Follow local law enforcement: Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, UNLPD on Pinnacle Bank Arena Drive. If you choose to not be part of the procession to the cemetery, please remain in your vehicle until procession traffic has passed. Map of Post-funeral Procession

  • The family has requested burial services be attended by LPD and family only. LPD and family vehicles will be turning left (West) onto L Street to enter the cemetery via the south entrance. All other law enforcement vehicles shall continue north on 40th Street, passing the cemetery. When you reach 40th & O Streets, this ends the procession. Please remember to turn off your overhead lights as you turn right (east) onto O Street.

  • For law enforcement agencies with SRS radio capability, please monitor SRS Talk-group "event m1" while in Lincoln.

  • Please review the Lincoln/Lancaster County directed health measures. Face coverings are required at most locations.

Outside Fire & EMS Agencies

  • Please parked and positioned by 7:30 a.m. in the lot north of the Journal Star, 442 N 9th Street.

  • After parking your apparatus, line both sides of Pinnacle Bank Arena Drive to receive the family during the escort to the Pinnacle Bank Arena. This should take place 8:45 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.

  • After the family passes your tribute, please make your way into Pinnacle Bank Arena for the service. Fire & EMS Personnel will enter via the south entrance, R Street side.

  • At the conclusion of the service, please return to your vehicle and prepare to enter the procession. Fall in line as law enforcement vehicles pass the parking lot where you are parked. The procession will be southbound on 9th Street.

Honor Guards

  • Please be at the Pinnacle Bank arena by 7:30 a.m.

  • Park and meet on the north side of Pinnacle Bank Arena as shown in photo. You will be directed from there with your assignment or task.

Public

  • Funeral will be open to the public. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

  • Clear bag policy will be in effect inside the arena.

  • Public parking available in the Pinnacle Bank Arena Festival Lot. Please park in the Pinnacle Bank Arena Festival Lot and walk over the pedestrian bridge. Public entry will be at the northeast corner of the arena. (map)

  • Pre-funeral procession will leave Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home at 8:30 a.m. and travel east on A Street, south on S. 48th Street to Normal Blvd. Procession will continue northwest on Normal Blvd toward downtown, turning north on Antelope Valley Parkway, west on N Street, then north on Pinnacle Arena Drive until reaching the arena.

  • Post-funeral procession will follow Pinnacle Arena Drive north, veering right at N 9th Street to travel south. The procession will continue south on N 9th Street, turning east on O Street, south on S 27th Street, east on Randolph Street, then north on S 40th Street to O Street, where it will end.

  • The family has requested a private burial service, attended by LPD and family only. Thank you for understanding.

Media

  • There will be no media allowed inside Pinnacle Bank Arena during the funeral service or at the burial site for graveside service. We appreciate the respect you are showing to the family for privacy at this time.

  • Live stream of Nebraska State Patrol helicopter will be available. Questions about accessing the feed should be directed to NSP via cody.thomas@nebraska.gov.

  • Live feed of the service will be provided by LNKTV. Media outlets will be able to access and stream that feed. Questions about accessing the feed should be directed to LNKTV. Funeral service will also be playing on the "Cube" in the Railyard.

  • Media staging locations at Pinnacle Bank Arena:
    • Pre-service (to view the procession arriving): Pinnacle Bank Arena Drive and R Street
    • During Service: Canopy and R Street
    • Post- Service (to view the procession leaving): North 9th Street and R Street

  • Media staging locations at Calvary Cemetery:
    • During graveside service: 40th and L Street (This will provide visibility of the 21 gun salute and honor guard detail as well)


    Many questions are being asked about how to help or how to donate:

    • A Go Fund Me account has been set up by the family:www.gofundme.com/f/investigator-mario-herrera
    • A fund has been established at all Lincoln locations of Liberty First Credit Union for monetary donations for the Herrera Family.
    • A memorial has been placed in the front of the Hall of Justice, 575 S 10th Street. Cards and gift cards will be accepted at that location by an officer standing by. They will be passed along to the family, however, we are asking that no perishable items be donated.
    • Due to COVID-19, we are asking people to avoid coming into the stations to drop off items. If you want to bring items for our officers, please call dispatch, 402-441-6000. When you arrive at 575 S 10th Street, advise that you have a donation you would like to make. Depending on officer availability, an officer will be sent to contact you at your vehicle.
