Nature Explorers Camp, 2014

Monday, March 10- Friday, March 14, 2014
Ages: 6-12  |   Time: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.   |   Fee: $170/child

Extended hours 7:30-8:30 a.m. & 5-5:30 p.m. School’s out… Looking for fun and adventure for your spring break? Spend it at the Nature Center. Play games, explore, build magic places, make friends and have a great time during spring break. Campers will get outside every day to investigate the natural world around them.

Camp Discovery, 2014

Days: Monday-Thursday Time: 9-11:30a
Fee: $70/week, Prairie Building Preschool Classroom

Each week we’ll learn through outdoor exploration, crafts, nature games, snacks and story time.

Green and Growing: June 2-5
Learn to grow in our children’s garden! We’ll get our hands into compost and soil, plant, water, and make a snack from edible plants.

Going on a Nature Hunt: June 9-12 or June 16-19
Spend the majority of each day outside walking north, south, east and west exploring the Nature Center’s various habitats. We’ll be hiking about 1.5 hours each day, weather permitting.

Scat, Tracks and Hidey Holes: June 23-26
Many mammals are nocturnal and not easily seen. We’ll explore the many signs they leave behind that tell us about how they live.

Water All Around: July 7-10 or July 14-17
It makes up 60% of our bodies and covers 3/4 of our world. It’s great to play in. We’ll be getting wet this week as we explore the critters that live in our wetlands and stream and have fun with water.

 

Wilderness Nature Camps

Basic Camp Information

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. extended hours (7:30-8:30 a.m. and 5-5:30 p.m.)
$170/week, ages 6 - 12 years old save $10 if registered by May 1st

All camps are at Wilderness Park unless otherwise stated. Snacks, drinks, & program supplies will be provided Each week will include an offsite field trip and closing ceremony Each week has a theme however activities will vary to be age appropriate Camper/Counselor hiking group ratio will not exceed 12:1 Hiking groups are in 6-8 year old and 9-12 year old age groups Campers are to bring a sack lunch, bug spray, sunscreen and water bottle Staff are trained in CPR, First Aid, natural history and camp programming Scholarships are available to those who qualify


Junior Counselor Leadership Camp

Dates: June 2-6, 2014 | Ages: 13 - 17 year olds

Location: Wilderness Park

Develop and practice leadership skills, make new friends, and increase confidence! The week will focus on team building, nature appreciation, stewardship, and great camp activities. Then participants will have the opportunity to apply their new skills during a week of hands-on, in-service training with younger campers. $110. This program requires a special application, due by May 1st.

Thirteen year olds are classified as Counselors in Training or CITs. Fourteen year olds and up are Junior Counselors or JCs. Following the required Leadership Camp, CITs can assist with one week of Wilderness Nature Camp and JCs can assist with two weeks of Wilderness Nature Camp.

Bull's Eye: June 9-13
Ready, aim, fire! Practice archery, use sling shots and create your own projectiles to hit the targets this week! Even learn how animals hit their mark.

Bones and Stones: June 9-13
Rocks, pebbles, minerals and fossils... find ‘em, trade ‘em and polish them to make gems.

Amazing Arts in Nature: June 23-27
Learn from artists and musicians how they are inspired by nature. It will be a week of wild creativity through crafts, construction and music.

Eco Explorers: July 7-11
Enjoy scavenger hunts, geocaching and orienteering as we make amazing discoveries and have lots of fun!

Wildlife Detectives: July 14-18
Can you track down the clues and solve wildlife mysteries? You will be using all of your senses and some of your natural intuition this week!

Water Wizards: July 21-25
Conduct water experiments and challenges. Investigate the plants and animals of Salt Creek and its watershed. Discover the magic of wetlands. Get wet and muddy while you explore the wonders of water.

Trekkers: June 23-27
Jayne Snyder Trails Center Camp
By bike or by boot we are going to explore Lincoln. Traveling on the trails or strolling on the sidewalks we are off to see unique sites. This camp is for 9-12 year olds only; a bike and bike helmet are required.

Aquatic Adventures: July 14-18
Holmes Lake Shelter #2
RExplore Holmes Lake’s shore and water during this fun filled week. There will be fishing, dipping for aquatic insects and so much more.
