There’s a whole lot of great things to see,
Beetles and bugs and a bird in a tree,
Search for fossils and rocks, dip in with a net,

2013 Camp Discovery - Ages 3-6

Each week we’ll learn through outdoor exploration, crafts, puppets, nature games, snacks and story time.  Registration begins March 1st.

Days: Monday-Thursday Time: 9-11:30a
Fee: $70/week

Green and Growing: June 3-6
Learn to grow in our children’s garden! We’ll get our hands into compost and soil, plant, water, harvest, and make a snack using what we’ve harvested.

Thank You Trees: June 10-13
From the tippy-tippy top branches to the deep-down roots, we’ll explore the amazing world of trees and discover all the things these ‘barky’ neighbors do for our world.

Reptiles Rock: June 17-20 or June 24-27
Are snakes slimey? Can a turtle crawl out of its shell? Find out for yourself! You’ll have a chance to meet many diff erent kinds of reptiles and investigate their lives.

Our Many Legged Friends: July 8-11
Six legs or eight, they’re everywhere we look. We’ll search for spiders and their webs, and for insects and spiders that live in water, and observe our buzzing, hopping, weaving friends.

 

Wilderness Nature Camp - Ages 6-13

Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm in-the-creek

Build forts, run through meadows, wade through creeks, explore the woods, meet new friends; these are weekly activities at WNC! This camp engages 6-13 year olds outside, where nature comes first.

Enjoy 6 great weeks, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Extended hours available for an extra fee.

A Junior Counselor program for those 13 and older provides new challenges and leadership opportunities.This program requires a special application due by May 1st, and an interview.

Date Ages 6-9 Camp Description
June 10-14 Outdoor Adventure Challenge yourself...run, jump, climb and wade your way around Wilderness Park in search of adventure!
June 17-21 Be a Rock Hound Rocks, pebbles, minerals and fossils... find ‘em, trade ‘em and polish them to make gems. Explore as you hike the trails.
June 24-28 Making Music Naturally Drumming, singing, chanting, strumming, discover and make your own sounds of nature. Listen for music as you hike.
July 8-12 Slimey & Disgusting Nature Spittle bug spit, dung beetle balls, slimey fungus, plants that ooze: we’ll explore fasinating, if slightly revolting, materials of the natural world.
July 15-19 Natural Arts & Crafts Sun prints, pinch pots, paper, hiking sticks and so much more. Make and take your own natural creations and tie-dye.
July 22-26 Wet n’ Wild Stomp in the puddles, splash in the creek, play water games, catch a frog - and have a soaking good time!
Date Ages 10-13 Camp Description
June 10-14 Amazing Challenge Team work, investigation skills and nature knowledge are going to help you compete in the scavenger hunt and geocaching. Be prepared to have fun!
June 17-21 Rockin’ Fossils Crinoids, corals, and ancient bison are just some of the fossils found around. We’ll go on a fossil dig and make great discoveries.
June 24-28 Bull’s Eye Ready... Aim... Fire! Practice archery, use sling shots and make projectiles to hit the targets this week!
July 8-12 Wilderness Engineering Plan, build and rig forts, boats, bridges and more. It’s all about creation and experimentation.
July 15-19 Nature Photography Calling all shutterbugs. There is no better subject than Wilderness Park, so grab your digital camera and discover Wilderness through its lens.
July 22-26 Water Wonders What’s a watershed? What are wetlands good for? How is the creek’s water quality? What conditions do aquatic plants and animals need to survive? Get wet and muddy while you investigate these watery concepts.

Eco Quest: June 10-14
Camp for 6-9 year olds. This scavenger hunt will have amazing discoveries and lots of fun!

Bike Camp: June 10-14 and 24-28
Camp for 6-9 year olds. Ride the trails! Bring your bike, helmet and we’ll explore Lincoln’s bike trails.

Alive & Growing: June 17-21
Camp for 6-9 year olds. Plants, animals and people... discover what makes us happy and keeps us thriving! Get dirty and explore what growing all around.

Prairie Life: July 8-12
Camp for 6-9 year olds. Visit the one-room school house and the log cabin, cook over a campfire and learn what it was like to live as a pioneer in Nebraska. Hike the Nature Center and Pioneers Park trails.

Outdoor Cooking June 17-21
Build a campfire and cook up some tasty treats by Dutch oven and more!

Prairie Safari July 8-12
Bison, elk, and deer are just few of the animals you’ll see on this safari. Make amazing discoveries through geocaching and tracking.

Nature Detectives: July 15-19
Camp for 6-9 year olds. Can you track down the clues and solve wildlife mysteries? It will take all of your senses! Make plaster tracks and your own track guide.

Canoe, Fish & More: July 15-19
Explore Holmes Lake’s shore and water during this fun filled week. We’ll learn about watersheds, how to keep them healthy for everyone to enjoy.
